The idea for the Study Group originated on the first NK cell Symposium in Heidelberg in December 2006. After a formal application to the German Society for Immunology the idea of the Study Group was presented to the speakers of the existing Study Groups on the annual meeting of the German Society for Immunology in September of 2007. After the recommendation by the speakers of the existing Study Groups the Board of the German Society for Immunology decided on their meeting in March of 2008 to create this new Study Group. At the second NK cell Symposium in Bad Herrenalb the Study Group NK cells was then formally brought to life and Carsten Watzl was elected as speaker. In June 2023 at the General Assembly of the Study Group in Würzburg, the group was thematically adjusted to incorporate the ILC community and consequently renamed into Study Group NK cells and ILCs.
Previous speakers of the Study Group:
Carsten Watzl (2008 – 2015)
Adelheid Cerwenka (2015 – 2018)
Roland Jacobs (2018 – 2021)
